Many tourism regions are increasingly relying on digital and interactive solutions to help engaging their guests more actively at attractive locations and to advertise targeted offers in the region.
One example of how QR Codes can be used across an entire region and stimulate tourism is the use of QR Codes to promote and distribute a regionaltourism card. Salzkammergut Tourismus has been practicing this successfully for years in form of the Salzkammergut Card.
Salzkammergut Summer Card with QR code From posters to digital platforms: increasing visibility and interaction
The Salzkammergut Erlebnis-Card ('adventure card'), available in both summer and winter versions, offers visitors numerous benefits and discounts of up to 25 percent on a wide range of attractions, sights and leisure activities throughout the Salzkammergut. The offers range from various mountain railroads to a visit to the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl or the Seeschloss Ort in Gmunden.
QR Codes embedded in traditional print and poster advertising leaddirectly to digital landing pages. Here, guests receive detailedinformation about the tourist map and its availability. The information pages are also linked to a competition and visitors can win a stay of several days in the region.
Salzkammergut Tourismus-Marketing GmbH is a cross-provincial holding organization that serves 7 regions of the Salzkammergut. It has relied on the qrplanet.com platform for the use of QR Codes for many years.
The easy handling of the platform supports Salzkammergut Tourismus-Marketing GmbH in the creation of dynamic QR Codes, which allow the digital links behind them to be updated at any time without having to change the QR Codes themselves. In addition, qrplanet.com enables comprehensive reporting with numerous evaluations, and thus allows detailed insights into the use of the QR Codes by visitors to the Salzkammergut at any time - and always anonymized, thus being in full compliance with data protection.
The extensive functions of qrplanet.com support the tourism region in making full use of the advantages of dynamic QR Codes, such as the subsequent changeability of content, QR Code tracking and campaign management. With the use of QR Codes, nature experiences can be linked with digital elements.
This combination is particularly effective as part of the BergeSeen eTrail, the eMTB tour in the Salzkammergut.
The BergeSeen eTrail leads over 630 km and 10 stages to the most beautiful places in the Salzkammergut eMountain bikers are provided with a physical map as information material. QR Codes are embedded in this map for each stage. With a scan, eMountain bikers can go directly to the digital information pages for this stage, including interactive maps and extensive additional information.
QR Codes for signage on cycle paths. QR Codes are also already being used for signage on cycle paths to provide eMountain bikers with up-to-date information. For example, current closures of individual sections of the route can be communicated immediately. Cycling visitors to the Salzkammergut are therefore always up to date.
Interview with Salzkammergut Tourismus-Marketing
Where and how do you use QR Codes in your tourism campaigns?
We use QR Codes primarily in printed materials such as hiking maps and cycle maps. These link to the detailed presentation of the respective stage and thus bring the information and details to the customer as quickly as possible.
The most appealing thing for us was that the company is based in Vienna and primarily works with dynamic Codes, which it also expressly recommends in order to utilize the advantages of dynamic QR Codes.
Scaling up to more QR Codes was also clarified quickly and easily.
