If you have a dynamic GS1 QR Code for a certain GTIN, you may want to put variants of the QR Code on your physical products containing additional information like product variant, batch number or serial number.

Each of those QR Codes may forward your end consumers to the same URL. However, scanning the QR Code with a special app or scanner, the additional meta information can be used to trigger different actions.

To create such variants you do not have to create a dynamic QR Code for each variant. You only need a base QR Code with just the GTIN encoded in the shortened vanity URL. For example:

Vanity URLProduct Page
https://qr.vc/01/0807174498950yourproduct.com

When you now create static QR Codes with the vanity URL from above and you add for example a batch number to the URL, the static QR Code will forward you to the same product page from above, even no dynamic QR Codes with such vanity URLs exists.

Technically this is achieved with Fallback Routing.

The following table shows two variants of the above mentioned GS1 QR Code with the batch numbers ABC and DEF in their vanity URLs.

https://qr.vc/01/0807174498950/10/DEFyourproduct.com
Any scan of a static variation of a GS1 QR Code will be added to the scan statistics of the main dynamic GS1 QR Code.

You can easily create such static QR Codes with the Mass QR Code Generator in your account, using up credits in the process.

5. Open the Mass QR Generator in your account

6. Paste the URLs for your static QR Codes and change them as needed

Paste the shortened URL of the GS1 QR Code into the entry field as shown
below and add all additional information. You might want to prepare a CSV to copy and paste the data from.

In our example, we added /10/ to signify batch Numbers (ABC and DEF) and /21/ for serial numbers (100 - 103 belonging to batch ABC and 200, 201 and 203 as part of batch DEF).

Please read this article to get more information on GS1 Data Attributes you can add.

Remember: You can also create seperate dynamic GS1 QR Code for each attribute - but this only makes sense if they should have different target URLs (for example, one page for each unique product with their own serial Number, or for each product variant). If all QR Codes have the same target URL, create static QR Codes instead.

7. Create your bulk of QR Codes

When everything is set up, click on Create QR Codes and the job will be added to your queue.

8. Download your QR Codes

The duration of the QR Code generation job depends on the file format, the design and, of course, the number of QR Codes. A few black-and-white ones won't take more than a few seconds, but 500 heavily designed QR Codes in a more complex format will take a few minutes.

We will send you an E-mail once the job is done. Now, you will be able to download your bulk.

The maximum number of QR Codes generated per job is 500.
